Wondermama Restaurant & Cafe @ Bangsar Village 1, Bangsar

Hello worldddd! It's time for another food review again! This time it is a review about Wondermama. Went on a mini food adventure with my high school mates yesterday.

Met up at Wondermama Restaurant & Cafe, which is located in Bangsar Village 1, right next to Plan B and opposite Starbucks ( or if you are still unfamiliar, this restaurant replaced the old Outback Steakhouse). If you are wondering, this restaurant is not related to Wondermilk at all. It serves Asian fusion food and had been nominated by the readers of Time Out KL as the Best New Restaurant in the Time Out KL Food Awards 2012. For your information, Wondermama has been around for about a year plus already.

Before this, I have heard of this place before and most people are like, "Why would you pay so much for food like curry laksa or Maggi goreng which you can get anywhere?"

Welll..... Here is why! :)

Soaked in the pretty pictures of the interior and exterior of Wondermama yet? Time for you to check out this place for yourselves. You can choose to either dine outside or inside of the restaurant where the environment is both comfortable enough. The inside of the restaurant is air conditioned and well ventilated, so there is no need to fear that you smell like the food you just ate after you leave the restaurant. The outdoor dining area is covered, surrounded by shady plants and there are also ceiling fans and the breeze to keep you cool.

Wondermama knows how to impress you with its well designed interiors - from the brightly coloured old school decorations everywhere, its geometrical tiles to the details of leaving a glass of flowers at every table. They sure know how to brighten your day!

On the very left you can see old school biscuits with sugary topping on it. One of the biscuits where I used to pester my mother to buy from the morning market. They sell savoury kuihs at RM1.50 a piece.

The cake section where they sell the usual cakes which are pretty much comparable to Marmalade Cafe and Plan B in the area. As you can see, at the lowest shelf there are hawflakes and old school candy displayed! There are also other desserts available at Wondermama but we did not try them, such as the pisang goreng with ice cream and The Potong homemade ice cream (RM 5 each). Maybe next time. :P

Wondermama also serves coffee priced from RM7 onwards, so you can also bring a good book here and have a cuppa. They even convinced you with a chalkboard of the benefits of drinking coffee.

Enough of the introduction about Wondermama, now it is the time to show you what we ate there and I certainly hope it will make your tummy rumble. :D

I had the D&L Nyonya Laksa (RM13.90) stated in the menu with egg, cucumber, prawn, cockles and fishcake. However, I requested for mine to be without cockles and to replace the prawns with fried chicken as I don't take seafood. The curry was up to standard, not too oily, not too spicy and there is enough santan in it. The portion is very big, about 1.5-2 times of the portion of a normal curry laksa stall you would get from the roadside. Not to mention, they are generous with the sides too, alot of tau poks, cucumbers, eggs, and quite a big piece of fried chicken so I would say, the price paid for was well worth it!

My friend had the Black Spider Fried Rice (RM20.90). It is basically fried rice with long bean, egg, vegetables, soft shell crab, black ebiko and black pepper. This sounds like something you would find in a Japanese restaurant. I tried a spoonful of it, and it tastes like normal fried rice at first, but towards the end,  there is an aftertaste, probably because of the soft shell crab and the black ebiko.

Beef Burger (RM14.80) - burger filled with beef patty, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, cheese, onion, mayo and home made beef sauce. My friend said this tasted OK to him, which is nothing much to expect from Wondermama, as burger is not their specialty. They also have other Wonder Burgers to choose from! You can choose either fries or salad as your side for the burgers.

Lastly, this is the Mini Naan Pizza with a waiting time of about 20 minutes. My friend had the mushroom one with red goji beans, cheese and green salad which cost RM14.90. She didn't like the rocket leaves on top of it and the portion is pretty small, so this would probably be suitable for a small bite, or as an appetizer.

The waiting time for our food was okay, since it wasn't too crowded on a weekday afternoon! The staff were pretty helpful too. However, it would be better if they were more attentive. Waved our hands for the bill for quite awhile before they finally saw us.

My friends! From the left, Aini, May, me, Chi Shun and Illi!

Me, Chi Shun and Illi!

Overall, it was a good lunch at Wondermama, I would definitely come back to try their extensive menu. Too many good food, what to do? :D

You should definitely visit this place and not get fooled by the price as it is very well worth it.

Wheee, stay tuned for part 2 of our foodie day adventure!

D'Italiane Kitchen @ Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara

Last Monday night, my high school mates and I had dinner at D'Italiane Kitchen at Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara. Been to Giza for quite a number of times but never tried this place before because it looks quite atas and expensive lolol. Broke student, remember?

Outside the restaurant, it looks so huge. When we enter, kinda small ah. They have smoking area, which is outside, and also non smoking area. The inside of the restaurant kinda dim ah, allow you to have a proper romantic candlelight dinner......... But the candle is electronic/plastic one. HAHAHA.

Ok anyways on Monday it was super hazy and I noticed plenty of people wearing masks. I am one of the non-mainstream ones I guess lolol who can't be bothered about the haze. Not not bothered, but it has not reached a very terrible stage yet okay? Last time when it was this hazy we still had to go to school! School was only cancelled when it got way worse. Look at the kids now, so lucky?

Anyway, it was already super hazy and there are people who still insist on dining at the smoking area and puffing away. It's like. "BREATHE IN ALL THE POLLUTED AIR YOU CAN! THE MORE THE BETTER!!" or maybe they're like "Let me die faster please!!!!"

What is the occasion? We were there to celebrate Chi Shun and Terry's birthday! This is the 2nd celebration for Terry!

I read on the internet that D'Italiane is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant. But um, from the looks of it we didn't fine dined? Is fine dining supposed to look like this? Someone please enlighten me haha.

I didn't manage to take everyone else's food but here is Terry's and mine.

Sicilian Chicken Salad, Salad with mustard, chicken slices, grapes, peaches and vegetables.

Saw that this salad had good reviews on the internet and wanted to try this. Ordered a starter portion to share with everyone else because if we ordered the full portion, don't think we can finish our main course later! The starter portion is enough to share up to two people as a starter. :)

I had the Alfungi Aglio Olio (Vegetarian) (RM19.90). I chose linguine as the pasta of my choice and it is cooked with fresh button mushrooms, porcini mushrooms, herbs and garlic in olive oil. My pasta was really good, with generous amounts of mushroom and also it was full of taste. Some how I wish they put in some chilli to make it taste spicy though.

Initially, I wanted to order the Smoked Duck Aglio Olio but everyone else also order so I opted for this instead since the other choice of aglio alio is seafood and I don't take seafood. Had a tasted of their smoked duck aglio olio and it was really good too!

Terry had the Seafood Cream Sauce cooked with linguine (RM32.90). His linguine was cooked with prawn, calamari, mussel, clams, fish fillets, herbs and garlic in cream reduction. I tasted his food and the sauce was really creamy and cheesy! Yum yum! Hehehe!

For pasta, we have the choice of choosing between normal spaghetti, linguine, penne fettucine or angel hair! So many choices but when we were ordering we weren't sure which was which! Why can't the Italians just give the pasta an English name or something. After your pasta arrives, the waiter will ask you whether you want any black pepper on your pasta and he bring this huge old school pepper thing-a-ma-jig and put some on your plate. Terry and I were kind of amused by one of the waiters. Anyway, they are nice enough to come and ask you about their food.

I only took 3 photos above hahaha, fail food blogger but yeah, everyone was happy with their food! Others also ordered pizza, spaghetti and risotto.

After we finish our food, it is time to sing the birthday song!

Cupcakes baked by Illi, with Batman, rock climbing and M&M themed fondant on top. Illi said that we shouldn't eat the fondant, and me being curious, nibbled some off the red M&M cupcake you see above, and god it tastes so sugary and like play-doh!

The birthday boys and I.

KKR, 2013, missing Dayana.

KKR 2013 with Phang Long. :)

Me with the two M&M cupcakes!

Terry and M&Ms, his favourite!

The bill totaled to about RM280 for the 7 of us with us ordering up to two dishes each and only two drinks. The food here is priced pretty reasonable for Italian food and I would come here again, for any special occasion maybe, but not on an ordinary day.

Birthdays.

Hello, went out with the bunch to celebrate my twentieth birthday recently! It was supposed to be a surprise but the surprise failed again. We never have such luck with surprises. Most of our surprises fail so next time we shouldn't bother doing surprise parties anymore. :X

On the day before the surprise:

Melvin: Where are you going tomorrow?
Me : Going OU with my high school friends lah why?
Melvin: I know! I'm going also!!!
Me: Huh why? Who call you go?
(inside my heart it's like : Err. I don't think you're supposed to tell me?)
Melvin: Got lah! See!! I told chuuu! You wait and see lah.

Went to One Utama's Chili's on Monday night for dinner. Was supposed to arrive at 7pm.

Before that, I went and pick Melvin up from his home. Traffic was like shit because it was after working hours. When I reach his house, I had some fried rice first and some vegetables cooked by Melvin himself hehe. It was really yummy, and no I am not lying. :))

Left to One Utama after he was done, and arrived at Chili's. Had our meal and we were so full! Next thing we know, the Chili's crew were singing happy birthday and brought out a cake! It was a birthday celebration for me, May Yen and Aini!

May Yen was arranging the fondant alphabet which ran out of place.

The cake was baked by my very talented best friend, Illi! This is the ultimate chocolate cake with kit kat, rocky/pocky, M&Ms and Maltesers!!

When it was time to cut the cake, we were like, how to cut the cake?!! It is too pretty to be cut!

Pretending to cut the cake :P

.... Then le pro cake baker had to help us cut the cake. Hahaha!

The people who attended the dinner: Aini, Illi, Phang Long, May Yen, me, Melvin , Chi Shun, and missing in the picture Terry! :)

I also received presents from them! :D

I received a candle holder from Terry and Body Shop fragrance and body lotion from Aini, Illi (?) and Chi Shun. :))

Left after the dinner and was full as a ball, and contented too.

When I went home, caught up with the pictures on the social media, and also went to put my polaroids together.

I realized that I have been with Fatty unofficially for the past two years . How time flies, and we do look different in every photo above, taken on different occasions.

Today is Terry's birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERRY!
(I know you read my blog!)

Yesterday, Illi, May, Aini and I gathered at May's place to make a card for Terry! Illi invited Terry, who was working at One Utama, for lunch today and told him that she has to get some stuff in OU and everyone else was busy!

Today we went to OU at 11.30am to go get Terry's present! Then we chilled at Boost Juice Bar for awhile before heading to Starbucks to take away Terry's favourite drink! Green Tea Frappuccino! We even asked the barista to write on top HAPPY BIRTHDAY! for him! Hahaha, hopefully you like the present and the drink! :)

We went and surprise Terry at his workplace!! And then we went to Nando's for lunch!

Terry with his presents and the card!

Birthday boy and I! :)

Terry, me, Illi and May.

The other half of the KKR's couldn't make it! Had fun with them today like I always do. :)

Again, happy birthday Terry, hope we brightened your day today! I'm glad that we are friends again, after that one year not talking to each other. Hopefully, we'll go on more adventures and explore new things, and most importantly, earn more big bucks! :)

Disco Rollerblading & Ikea.

So, the other day last week, I went disco roller blading with the bunch and I must say, it is a really tiring sport, and challenging for some! Dad dropped me at Terry's house in the morning and then we sat Illi's car! We had to take the GPS there. Go Subang also sesat.

May, Illi and Terry.
Well, we chose disco roller blading as we wanted to see what was the hype about.. So we went to Subang Avenue thinking it would be a shopping mall full of shops, but it was sort of dead... Like SS2 mall. I think it is worse than SS2 Mall though. What is the people trying to do? Are they trying to be like Singapore? Build so many malls at the same place.. Well if it was that, then you'll FAIL.

Soon after, Dayana came! Haven't seen this girl in ages, our future lawyer. She took the KTM right after class at Brickfields!

Dayana and me
Then we had to wait for the others to arrive... So May Yen couldn't take it  and sat on the floor...

Tadaa.
My shorts and shoes in matching colours, both from BKK

Illi's Michael Kors bag, which was so pretty.
After standing for a while, we all felt hungry so we went and have breakfast at Old Town! Caught up with each other while waiting for Aini and Chi Shun to arrive.. Most of us ate the food which had sambal which was super duper pedas for the day. We realized that the only ones who will be left in Malaysia among the 8 of us would be me, Terry and Ahmad. The rest were going to fly off to UK sooner or later. Why? Why can't I be like them? Hmm.

Dayana and Terry

Aini, May Yen and me
The people sitting opposite of  me
After eating, we took the elevator up to the 4th floor (think so) and paid for our tickets. For students with student cards, it was only RM15. For members, it is RM20, for non-members like me (-_-), I had to pay RM25 and was provided with free membership. Can't remember where I flung the card though.. Went inside and the music was so loud my heart started thumping really fast. Well, let me say it was sort of a let down? Nevertheless, still fun though.

Had to choose whether we wanted inline or quad skates. The inline were like the regular rollerskates we had at home. And I skated before when I was little so I went with inline! It was easy to skate and balance, but apparently more dangerous. Halfway through, changed to quad skates but it was really hard to skate...

One thing I learnt from roller blading is, never be afraid. If you are constantly afraid of falling down, you'll never manage to skate at all! Another thing is, helping each other.. Especially when we keep falling. Spent the first half an hour learning how to skate and then we zoomed around... Have to say this though, the hype was overrated..

After two hours, we were all exhausted and we left to Subang Parade!

Us with the pretty lights.

Aini and the pretty lights behind.
Got ourselves to Subang Parade and had to wait for the other car.. So we sat on the bench for quite abit because we were all so tired!!!

le high school bunch
Got conned into eating Manhattan Fish Market in Subang Parade. Yeah, me stepping in a shop specializing in seafood, highly unlikely! The waitress had sucky service and they seem like people who just came out of high school.. I mean, if you want to employ them, it is not a problem but at least give them some training. Asked one of the staff whether the Pepsi was bottomless and she ran off to her supervisor/colleague/whoever just to ask that. What the...

Terry.
Terry used to hate the camera, because he didn't know how to smile. Now he loves the camera soooo much. :)) Kidding.

Went to Curve after that to settle Illi's phone problems.. Then Dad picked me up from Terry's place and lectured me about how I shouldn't go to a guys house and etc. Me going out alot etc. I am home 3/4 of the time.. What more do they want me to do. Sigh, nevermind, I'll stop complaining.

Next day, Illi, May and Terry baked cupcakes at Illi's place.. At night we went for dinner at Curve! We had Ikea meatballs. And we found out that Ikea doesn't serve Daim cake anymore. WHY? :(

After that, walked around and then went to Chatime to get my red bean milk tea fix. Yay me!

Oh yeah, brought the other half along, and I guess he got along well? Sort of awkward but not as awkward as the first time. And he so handsome that day.

xx.

:)))
