5 Waffles and Pancakes places to visit in Malaysia

Recently in Malaysia, it feels as if that waffles and pancakes are the new in thing, after cafes. Cafes are running out of ideas and so they are bringing out more specialty food to attract people. There are not only sweet version of waffles and pancakes, but there are also savoury version of them.

Visited quite a few places, and there is still a list of places which serve waffles and pancakes which I have yet to cross off my to-visit list.

1. Chequers in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

'Melting Moments' , from their dessert menu, it costs RM16.  It is waffles topped with chocolate chips, deep fried bananas, salted caramel sauce, coconut and almond vanilla crust.

I like the fact that the waffles did not taste like ones which were ready made, and the portion was a generous amount.

This place serves savoury waffles as well and I will definitely be back to try them.

Also, this cafe is located at the row behind Jasema mamak in TTDI. Quite easy to park there on a weekend, and this cafe is still a hidden gem I guess, as there are not many people here when I visited during the weekend.

2. Brown Pocket in Gurney Paragon, Pulau Pinang.

Heard and seen so much about this place and I knew I had to stop by when I came to Pulau Pinang for a food trip. Gurney Paragon is a super huge and happening place where they have so many floors. Did not know on which floor Brown Pocket was located on so I walked all the way up and surveyed each floor. It is located on the 6th floor, and it is at an area where you have to walk towards the outside of the mall. Something like the balcony?

Tried the chocolate banana waffles (RM13.90++) which are liege waffles served with ice cream, bananas, walnut and chocolate sauce.

Expected more about the waffles with the hype but I also think that order the wrong thing here haha. Their signature waffles is the Triple Chocolate Liege Waffles.

We came here during the night so I did not get nice photos of the place. The photos in instagram tells me that this place has ample sunlight, which means it is better to visit during the day for nicer photos. You know what they say... Cameras eat first!

You don't have to worry about having a crowd here because there is enough seating and also I think that the Brown Pocket hype has died down.

3. Standing Theory in SS2, Petaling Jaya.

BBC Waffles (RM16), waffles with banana, bacon and Fatbaby ice cream.

Heard so much about this too, and to me, it was a let down. I think it is too intense for my tastebuds, it is too sweet and also savoury at the same time, which left me quite jelak. I did not order this on my own but I shared it with two others, still felt super jelak and bloated.

Nevertheless, hop over here to try it, maybe you would like it, like how majority of the netizens in Malaysia does.

This place is tucked in a shoplot area in the neighbourhood away from the busy streets in SS2. It can be pretty quiet on weekdays, but on weekends it is quite packed because everyone wants a good brunch and also to hang out when there is no work.

4. The Red Beanbag in Solaris Dutamas (Publika)

My favourite place to have pancakes! This is my 3rd or 4th visit and my 3rd time having pancakes here. The above is Skyscraper (RM19) which consists of stacks of fluffy pancakes, drizzled with chocolate sauce, caramellized fruits and maple syrup.

Not too sweet, and the caramellized fruits are really good!

A little short on this place, but you seriously NEED to try this if you haven't!

5. Favourites Waffles in SS15, Subang Jaya.

Love this place because it is a quiet place, suitable for you to bring your girls for a good long chat, or also to do work without being bothered to leave the place faster so other people can sit. The waiting time for the waffles is long, but believe me it will be worth it. The waffles here are quite affordable compared to the above places but I think out of all, I love this waffles the most.

Why? It takes a longer time because they make the waffles from scratch so it comes warm, and crispy, and it goes really well with the ice cream.

It is located at upstairs at the shoplots at the front row facing the main road in SS15, a few shops away from McDonalds.
